MoD Showhouse 2011

This past weekend a friend and I went to check out the March of Dimes Showhouse in Foxcroft – near the Mint Museum.  There are many great designers represented at the house.  The house itself is HUGE – I believe over 10,000 square feet – 4 to 5 living spaces, 5-6 bedrooms, plus a nanny suite, pool, elevator = super SNAZZY!

Let me share some of my favorite spaces:

The Dining Room:

A beautiful elegant Dining Room with creams, whites and greys.  I really like the traditional window treatments with a modern touch of box pleat trim on the leading edges of each panel.  You can check out more before and after’s on their blog.

I loved this room! The wall treatment was to die for!  It was one of those colors that one minute you think it’s blue, then brown, then gray and a gorgeous sheen on top.  I loved the combinations of furnishings.  A funky mixture but still so chic!  LURVE!

They did a wonderful job of combining natural textures.  Such a welcoming space that I would love to curl up in front of the fire on a cool crisp fall evening!  Oh and did you check out the sunburst mirror made out of fence pickets?  Too cute!

I have loved Lucy & Co back in the days when she was over on Commonwealth in Plaza Midwood.  They do amazing work!  If you haven’t ever visited the shop or checked out their blog or website – it’s a must!  And they didn’t disappoint at the showhouse either.

This room was light and airy and so inviting!  A beautiful combination of old and new.  Fellow Charlotte blogger Byrn Alexandra works at Isabella and has been telling us a little bit about their design process here.

 

Overall a beautifully designed home.  Oh and it’s for sale and I’m sure all the designers would be more than happy to sell it furnished!  There’s still a chance to check out all the lovelies LIVE and in PERSON next weekend!  And it’s for a good cause – so go on over and let me know what your favorite spaces are!

We joined the CSA

I’m so excited that we took the plunge and joined a CSA here in Charlotte.  Do you know what a CSA is?  I didn’t at first either – so no worries.  I’m here to keep you peeps informed! A CSA is Community Supported Agriculture.  The way it works is this:  you sign up for a season (summer, winter, spring, etc.) and every week you get a portion of the goods growing at the farm.  You don’t know what’s going to be in your box until that week.  So if you’re not open to trying new things it may not be the best fit.  But if you all about supporting your local farmers, like trying different veggies and fruits and like to save money this could be a great option!!

My farm delivers every week on Wednesday in Plaza Midwood, which is very convenient to us.  We decided to split a large box with some friends but they have a small box option as well.  The Fall Share is $357.00 for 10 weeks of deliveries and then we divide that in half since we’re splitting the share.  So for $19.50 a week we have all the produce we need and support our local farmers instead of someone in California or Mexico or really who knows where.

There are multiple farms in the Charlotte area that participate in CSA’s.  We chose to go with Know Your Farms.  The cool thing about going with this CSA is they are a combination of lots of different farms that come together to make up your weekly box.  And you can also add eggs, beef, pork or flowers on to your weekly delivery.

…I decided I needed to check this out.  How cool to finally meet some Charlotte peeps I n    R eal L ife!  So I headed over to High Cotton. This is a new furniture store for Rodney Hines, but it’s not his first rodeo.  Rodney has been in the furniture industry for years.  I remember going to his first shop years ago when I worked for a design firm. He has always had a passion for providing beautiful things at beautiful prices!  (that means a super deal, people!)  Rodney has another shop in Southend as well, The Furniture Connector. 

I’m so excited about this event I can’t decide what to talk about first the great people or the great furnishings?!?!  Well let’s meet Rodney:

Here we are hanging out by some beautiful fabrics.  Rodney is SUPER sweet guy – makes you feel so welcomed!  He was the perfect host!

I got to meet some fellow tweeters.  Above is Todd aka GreenMarketGuy (on the left) and Andy @ Tack Charlotte Upholstery (blue t-shirt).  I didn’t get an opportunity to meet the lovely ladies on their right.

You may recognize these peeps…  Yep that’s Ms Emily Clark  of Emily A Clark Designs. Sweet as a glass of Southern sweet tea! Emily has blown up in the blog world (for good reason!) and has so many great ideas! 

And the GW of thrifting – Mr Goodwill Hunting aka Rashon.  Don’t you love his “i ♥ thirfting” T'!  It’s a revolution.  You must check it out!!  RIGHT HERE!  And there’s going to be a BIG event on July 9th – that’s going to be WORLDWIDE – all thanks to Mr G-Dub!  Oh and you can get your own snazzy T right here.

We were also hanging with Ms Kim of Super Chyc – a super sweet chicky that loves to blog about thirfting, fashion, and much more!

Rodney had a little door prize action going on as well.  Melissa was the lucky winner of a gorgeous silver tray.  Nice, right!  Speaking of gorgeous…  let’s take a little time to look around this store!

             

AHH-mazing, right!  You must go over and really check this place out!  Rodney is stocking Vanguard Furniture (made in Hickory NC – yay for local!!) found pieces from flea markets, awesome accessories, uber cool lighting and the list goes on!

And to top off a super-fabulous evening we didn’t leave empty handed!  Yes that’s right – swag people!  Some goodies from Vanguard and a BEE-utiful pillow…

        

So cool, right!  It’s perfect in the living room.  Thanks again Rodney!!

High Cotton Home Co. is right across the street from Atherton Mill on South Blvd.  So make a afternoon of it…  Hop into High Cotton and take a nice long stroll around – there’s lots to look at!  Then walk over to Bead Me by Linda Minor for some handmade jewelry and then end the evening with a nice bottle of wine from The Vin Master.  So fun exploring new spots!
